Thaksin Shinawatra (Thai: ทักษิณ ชินวัตร; rtgs: Thaksin Chinnawat; Thai pronunciation: [tʰák.sǐn tɕʰīn.ná.wát R_SQUARE_B.; birthed 26 July 1949) is a Thai businessman and political leader. Between 2001 and 2006, he was the Prime Minister of Thailand.

The former law enforcement agent founded the smart phone operator Advanced Information and the IT and also telecoms Shin Company in 1987, that made him among the richest in Thailand.
