Ronda Stryker is a board member of Stryker Corp., which was founded in 1946 by her grandfather, Homer Stryker (d. 1980), the inventor of the modern hospital bed. The company sold $11.3 billion in medical devices, equipment and software in 2016. A former teacher, she and her husband William Johnston have given $100 million to Western Michigan University to create a new medical school named for her grandfather, and pledged $20 million to Harvard Medical School to fund global health research. Her siblings, Jon and Pat, are also on the Forbes 400.
Stryker is the largest individual shareholder in Stryker Corp, a medical equipment manufacturer with revenue of $12.4 billion in 2017. She owns more than 6 percent of the company and siblings own another 9 percent. Her husband’s asset management company, Greenleaf Trust, manages additional Stryker shares for its clients.
