Indonesian billionaire Eka Tjipta Widjaja’s son, Oei Hong Leong, is a Singapore citizen and long-time resident of the island-state. Oei, who earlier sued Goldman Sachs for selling him lossmaking currency options, is embroiled in a legal dispute against Canada’s Concord Pacific Acquisitions over a proposed waterfront development in downtown Vancouver. Oei is an avid collector of Buddhist art and owns a private museum in Singapore with 50,000 items.
Singaporean businessman Oei Hong Leong has an estimated net worth of $745 million in 2013. Just recently, he reportedly increased his investments in IPC Corp, a company that owns hotels, and specializes in redeveloping many of Japan’s distressed properties. He owns a large stake in Raffles Education Corp, the largest private education group in Asia-Pacific. It operates a design institute in Singapore, plus 33 other colleges and universities in Southeast and East Asia. He also plans to redevelop a large waterfront site in Vancouver.
