The group, one of the Middle East’s biggest holding companies, was mainly led by Nassar, Mohannad’s elder brother, who ran the business until his death of a heart attack in April 2011. Ever since, Mohannad’s brother Fawzi has taken the charge of the company with shares in numerous Kuwaiti companies, such as National Bank of Kuwait and telecommunication company Zain. Furthermore, its US chain operates several food joints across the Middle East, among which are Hardee’s, and Krispy Kreme. As of March 2013, Mohannad Al-Kharafi and his brothers Fawzi and Jassim are said to be the richest people in Kuwait.
