Zhang was born in October 1969 in Zhejiang, China. She began her career at the age of 17 at Ningbo Fire Company. In May 2000, she founded YTO Express, a shipping and freight forwarding services in China with her husband, Weijiao Yu. Zhang has since served as the Vice President and Director of the company. Zhang is also the Executive Vice President of Shanghai Tonglu Shanghui.
