Lee Hwa-Kyung is the second daughter of Dongyang Group founder Lee Yang-Koo. She began her career in Donyang’s confectionery business, now known as Orion Confectionery, in 1975. Orion’s portfolio includes more than 100 brands in such categories as biscuits, caramel, chewing gum and snacks. The company’s most famous product is Choco Pie, consisting of a combination of biscuit, chocolate and marshmallow filling. Orion sales are booming in China: the country generates twice as much revenue for the company as does South Korea. Her husband, Dam Chul-Gon, serves as chairman; the figure for net worth includes his $495 million stake. She is now in charge of Orion’s Showbox entertainment business.
