According to Forbe, Zhu Gongshan chairs GCL-Poly Energy Holdings, a manufacturer of polysilicon utilized to make solar panels. Zhu finished from Nanjing Electric Power University in July 1981 and got a diploma in electrical automation.

Today, Gonshan is considered as the richest person in China in the solar energy business. Due to poor European demand and implementation of U.S. anti-dumping duties, the company expected a full-year loss in 2012.
